1. Writer’s Address

This is your house address, written first and at the top right corner of your page.

2. Date

Write this next and under your address, still at the top right corner.

6th February, 2026.

3. Receiver’s address

Write this under the date but at the left corner of your page.

The Head Teacher,
XYZ Primary School,
Alimosho,
Lagos State.

4. Salutation

Write this under the receiver’s address, and according to the gender of the receiver.

Use Dear Sir, (for a man), Dear Madam, (for a woman) and Dear Sir/Madam, (when the gender is unknown)

   Dear Sir/Madam,

5. Title or heading

Write this in CAPITAL LETTERS, under the salutation. It tells the employer the exact position you are applying for.

6. Introduction

State what you are applying for and how you saw the vacancy.

I am writing to apply for the position of Primary School Teacher at XYZ Primary School, as advertised.

7. Body paragraphs

  • Use 1st paragraph to state your qualification(s) and experience.
I hold a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Primary Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I have two years of teaching experience at ABC Primary School, where I taught English Language, Basic Science, and Social Studies.
  • Use 2nd paragraph to express your passion and teaching methods.
I am passionate about working with young learners and creating a positive learning environment. I use child-centred teaching methods, educational games and visual materials to boost understanding. I also place strong emphasis on discipline, character development and effective communication with parents.
  • Use 3rd paragraph to emphasize your competence and availability for an interview.
I believe my qualifications, experience and commitment to pupils’ development make me a strong candidate for this role. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to your school.

8. Conclusion

Mention your CV, appreciate their time and expect feedback.
