Hello,

Welcome to the simplest lesson on the nominalization of verbs with definition, examples and questions for you to practice.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Define nominalization.
  • Explain how to convert verbs to nouns.
  • Give at least 3 examples of verbs and their noun forms.

Nominalization of verbs

“Nominalization” comes from the word “nominal” which means “noun”.

Hence, nominalization of verbs is the conversion of verbs to nouns.

Remember…

A VERB is an action word.

  • Please, SHORTEN your sentence.

The “shorten” (verb) describes an action.

A NOUN is any name.

  • Please, make your sentence SHORT.

“Short” is the name (noun) of what we want her to make her sentence.

How to nominalize Verbs to Nouns

  • Get the verb.
  • Think of a noun with more similar spelling and whose meaning is related to the verb.
  • Use the noun in a sentence to confirm.
