How to write the salutation in WAEC informal letter

After

  • THE WRITER’S ADDRESS.
  • AND THE DATE.

The salutation is the 3RD part of an INFORMAL LETTER IN WAEC and it is written under the date but at the left-side of your writing page.

Its structure is as follows.

1. Start with “Dear”

EXAMPLE.

  • Dear

2. Next is their first name of the receiver or who they are to you

You have three methods of saluting the receiver in an informal letter.

First method of salutation

Call the receiver by who he/she is to you.

EXAMPLE (1).

  • Dear brother

Second method of salutation

Call the receiver by their first name.

EXAMPLE (2).

  • Dear Sam

Third method of salutation

Combine the first and second methods.

EXAMPLE (3).

  • Dear Brother Sam

Notice that the first letter in “brother” of example (1) was capitalized as “Brother” in example (2).

This is because…

3. End with a comma

A comma must end any of the methods you choose to use.

EXAMPLES.

  • Dear brother,
  • Dear Sam,
  • Dear Brother Sam,

Extra tips

Feel free to use different adjectives to further show the “informality” between you (the writer) and the receiver.

EXAMPLES.

  • Dear cute brother,
  • Dear lovely Sam,
  • Dear sweet Brother Sam,

PLEASE NOTE.

It is NOT compulsory nor does it really give any extra mark. So when you use it, DON’T OVER-USE IT.
