A prepositional phrase is a group of words that functions as a preposition. Such phrase starts with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun.

In the kitchen.

Inside the drawer.

Behind the bank.

Functions of prepositional phrase

They modify nouns

In other words, they can function as an adjective.

EXAMPLE:

The dog in the kitchen is the cutest.

They modify verbs

They can also function as an adverb.

EXAMPLE:

I slept at my friend’s house.

They can act as nouns

EXAMPLE:

After the match will be too late for us to go home.
